Grilled Tempeh Recipe

16 ounces tempeh*
1 large onion, sliced and separated into rings
2 cups barbecue sauce

Cut tempeh into slices. Steam tempeh over boiling water for 15 minutes. Place tempeh and onion in a shallow dish, pour the barbecue sauce over it and marinate in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour. Place tempeh and onions on barbecue grill and cook until browned and heated through, basting frequently (can also be cooked in the oven at 350 degrees, covered for 30 minutes).

* Tempeh is a mixture of soybeans and grains (usually rice or millet) that is fermented into a soybean "cake." Tempeh has a nutty or smoky flavor and can also be used in soups, casseroles, spaghetti sauce, etc.
