Holiday Multigrain Cutouts Recipe
1 cup sugar
2/3 cup shortening
3 1/4 cups whole wheat flour
1/4 cup cornmeal
1/4 cup wheat germ
3/4 cup milk
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
Baked-On Frosting:
2/3 cup all-purpose flour
2/3 cup margarine, softened
1 tablespoon hot water
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Beat sugar and shortening in large bowl with an electric mixer until mixed. Stir in remaining ingredients except frosting ingredients. Roll out 1/3 dough at a time to 1/8-inch thickness on a floured surface. Cut into shapes using cookie cutters and place 1 inch apart on an ungreased baking dish. For frosting, combine flour and margarine and mix well. Stir in hot water to reach desired consistency. Decorate with frosting using a decorator’s bag and other decorations before baking. Bake 12-15 minutes or until edges or light brown. Cool for 1-2 minutes then remove and cool on a wire rack.
