Almond Biscotti Recipe

1 cup sugar
1/2 cup margarine or butter, softened
1 tablespoon grated orange peel
2 eggs
3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup slivered almonds, chopped

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Beat sugar, margarine, orange peel and eggs in a large bowl. Stir in flour, baking powder and salt. Stir in almonds. Shape half of the dough at a time into a rectangle 10 x 3 inches and place on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake about 20 minutes or until an inserted toothpick comes out clean. Cool on baking sheet for 15 minutes. Cut into 1/2-inch slices, and place cut side down on baking sheet. Bake about 15 minutes or until crisp and light brown. Cool on a wire rack.
