Alan Titchenal, PhD
Alan Titchenal, PhD, received his training
in nutrition science and exercise physiology at the University of California,
Davis. He teaches and conducts research in the department of Human Nutrition,
Food and Animal Science at the University of Hawaii, Honolulu.
He teaches courses that include nutrition
in exercise and sport, as well as the nutritional biochemistry of macronutrients.
He has researched amino-acid nutrition; exercise effects on food intake;
interactions among diet, exercise and body composition; energy intake
and basal metabolic rate; and nutrient database development for nutritional
supplements and functional foods.
In addition to teaching and research,
Dr. Titchenal co-authors a newspaper health column and recently co-authored
a book on osteoporosis prevention. He has competed in marathons, triathlons
and bike racing.
